Dimethicone is used in selected AlumierMD products as there is extensive scientific data to prove that it is safe and beneficial for topical application on the skin. Dimethicone can be used to help prevent transepidermal water loss, to calm irritation and discomfort, minimise redness and reinforce hydration in the skin's natural protective barrier. Due to the molecular weight of dimethicone, it does not have the ability to be systemically absorbed, and thus works superficially on the skin's surface. Dimethicone is not an occlusive agent — like many silicones, it is breathable and non-comedogenic because of its long bond lengths and wide bond angles.
