SKIN CONCERNS

Pigmentation treatment in Cirencester

Pigmentation and sun damage are brown patches and uneven tone caused by accumulated UV exposure. At ALBA Skin & Beauty Clinic in Cirencester the most effective treatment is IPL photofacial, usually three sessions, often combined with AlumierMD peels and prescribed skincare. Daily SPF is required afterwards or the pigmentation returns.

What is it

Patches of excess melanin, ranging from scattered freckling to larger flat brown marks. Most commonly on the cheeks, forehead, chest and backs of the hands, and usually noticed from the mid thirties onward.

What causes it

Cumulative UV exposure over decades, including the incidental kind from driving and walking rather than only sunbathing. Melanin is produced as a defence against UV, and repeated exposure makes that production patchy and persistent.

What usually helps

IPL photofacial targets the pigment directly and clears it efficiently, typically over three sessions. AlumierMD peels support this by accelerating cell turnover, and prescribed topicals reduce new pigment forming. Sun protection is not optional afterwards.

What won’t help

Treating without an accurate diagnosis. Melasma looks similar and is made worse by the heat and light that clears sun damage, which is why we assess in person before recommending IPL.

FAQs

How many IPL sessions do I need for pigmentation?

Most people need three sessions spaced four weeks apart. A patch test is required at least 24 hours before the first session at ALBA Skin & Beauty Clinic in Cirencester.

Will the pigmentation come back?

It can, if the skin is exposed to UV again without protection. Daily SPF is essential after treatment, and most people benefit from a maintenance session once a year.

How do I know whether I have sun damage or melasma?

Sun damage is usually scattered and irregular. Melasma is symmetrical across both cheeks or the upper lip and often began with pregnancy or hormonal contraception. They are treated almost oppositely, so this is assessed in person before any light-based treatment.
