SKIN CONCERNS

Thread veins and broken capillaries in Cirencester

Facial thread veins are small dilated blood vessels visible near the surface of the skin, most often around the nostrils and across the cheeks. At ALBA Skin & Beauty Clinic in Cirencester they are treated with IPL photofacial, which targets the vessel directly. Most people need two to three sessions.

What is it

Fine red or purple lines, sometimes called broken capillaries or spider veins, most visible on the nose, nostril creases and cheeks. They are dilated rather than broken, despite the name.

What causes it

Genetics and fair skin are the main factors, alongside years of sun exposure, cold weather, outdoor work and alcohol. They are also common alongside rosacea, and pregnancy can trigger them.

What usually helps

IPL photofacial delivers light absorbed by the blood in the vessel, collapsing it so the body clears it. Larger individual vessels sometimes need a second pass. Results are visible within a couple of weeks of each session.

What won’t help

Topical products. Nothing applied to the surface reaches a dilated vessel, regardless of the marketing on the packaging.

FAQs

Do thread veins come back after treatment?

The treated vessels are cleared permanently, but new ones can form over time, particularly with continued sun exposure or if you have rosacea. Many people have a maintenance session every year or two.

Does IPL hurt on thread veins?

Most people describe a quick snap similar to an elastic band, with some warmth afterwards. Treatment around the nostrils is the most sensitive area but is over quickly.

Do I need a patch test?

Yes. A patch test is required at least 24 hours before your first IPL session at ALBA Skin & Beauty Clinic in Cirencester.
