Photorejuvenation facial

Photorejuvenation is a light-based facial that improves overall skin tone, texture and firmness in a single treatment. At ALBA Skin & Beauty Clinic in Cirencester it is delivered with the Zemits QuantumPeak ELOS system, which combines narrow-spectrum pulsed light at 590 to 750nm with radiofrequency to stimulate collagen. Most people have a course of three, spaced four weeks apart, with no downtime.

How it works

Light energy is absorbed by pigment and by the haemoglobin in small vessels, breaking down the things that make skin look uneven. At the same time, bipolar radiofrequency warms the deeper dermis, which stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin. Pairing the two means the light energy can be kept lower while still reaching the depth required, which is why it is comfortable and suitable across a wide range of skin types.

What it treats

Uneven tone, dullness, sun damage, mild pigmentation, background redness, enlarged pores, early fine lines and general loss of firmness. It is the treatment to choose when nothing is badly wrong but the skin no longer looks fresh.

RESULTS TIMELINE

Brightness within a week. Collagen change builds over 8 to 12 weeks after the final session.

Do

✔️ Apply SPF 50 daily
✔️ Use a gentle cleanser and a barrier moisturiser
✔️ Keep the skin cool for the first evening
✔️ Let any darkened pigment flake away naturally

✖️ No saunas, steam or hot yoga for 48 hours
✖️ No retinoids or acids for 5 days
✖️ Do not pick or scrub darkened pigment

Is it right for you?

Suits most skin types. Your practitioner selects parameters based on your Fitzpatrick type at the patch test. Darker skin types are treated at lower light energies with RF compensating for depth, and suitability is always confirmed in person rather than assumed.

NOT SUITABLE IF YOU ARE

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding

  • Recent sun exposure, sunbed use or fake tan in the last 4 weeks

  • Taking photosensitising medication, including isotretinoin within the last 6 months

  • Active infection, broken skin or an outbreak of cold sores in the area

  • Photosensitive epilepsy

  • History of keloid scarring

  • Tattoos or permanent makeup in the treatment area

  • Under 18s

Questions people ask

Is photorejuvenation the same as IPL?

It is the same family of treatment but the technology differs. ALBA uses the Zemits QuantumPeak, which delivers DPL, a narrower and more targeted band of light than traditional broadband IPL, combined with radiofrequency. In practice that means more of the energy does useful work and less is wasted as heat.

How many photorejuvenation sessions will I need?

Most people have three sessions spaced four weeks apart, then a maintenance session once or twice a year. The number is confirmed at your patch test appointment once your practitioner has assessed your skin.

Can I have photorejuvenation before an event?

Yes, though allow at least a week. There is no downtime, but skin can look flushed for a few hours and any pigment treated may darken and flake over several days before clearing.
